The Women of Color Leadership Conference is held annually at the university to celebrate the different experiences of women in all career fields. In 2023, the theme was “finding the light and guidance in the stars among seas of change.” Taking this quite literally, I created an illustration of a bright lighthouse among roaring waves. Choosing a soft and chalky texture, my goal was to not convey a feeling of intensity or fear but rather hope and strength. Perhaps the most challenging part was fitting all of the text required - I went with a classic serif font for primary text, and a hand-lettering font for secondary text.
