During the holiday season, I wanted to illustrate a holiday card to pass out to relatives and friends. This holiday card is in memory of my Lola (“grandma” in Tagalog”) and two of my dogs who passed away. A part of celebrating Christmas in the Philippines is the crafting of parol, which are Christmas lanterns made of wood and paper. Illustrating colorful lights in a dark setting is something I’ve been wanting to work on, and I wanted to incorporate a cartoonish yet comforting, nostalgic emotion through the glowing colors and soft brush textures.
