While rewatching episodes of Disney’s Little Einsteins, the idea of creating a classical music record for children popped into my head. To curate a list, I turned to my partner and their friends, who attended music school. Together, we collected over 55 selections and narrowed them down to 16 for the official track list.
Visually, I was inspired by Disney Legend Mary Blair’s work for it’s a small world, a ride famously known for its timeless song and midcentury look. Classical music often uses traditional imagery from their respective eras, but I wanted to evoke a sense of whimsy and playfulness. This could engage younger children and immerse them in an orchestral setting in their own living room! Additionally, I researched specs of 12 inch records, the differences between stereo and mono audio, and popular record labels that produced vinyl. Over the years, I’ve collected my own records and used them as references for typography. While the front cover was done in Illustrator, I used InDesign for the back to help with typesetting and formatting.
