reviewing and categorizing coordinates
reviewing and categorizing coordinates
Going to school in San Francisco is something I’ve always been proud of, with one of the main reasons being that I get to see such eclectic, stunning architecture. To many, that means the Victorian houses but I set out to uncover the quieter parts of the city. That’s when I chose the Sunset district, the quiet suburbia next to the Pacific Ocean where many of my high school friends live.

I read through SF Planning’s documents to familiarize myself with the architectural styles, and I set out to personally collect coordinates of homes, photograph them, and categorize them. Each home has similar floor plans, but unique facades, from the colors to its organic shapes. That was something I wanted to emulate in the map’s design (see initial draft). However, the house shapes felt too clunky and ultimately, I leaned into the midcentury aesthetic with its trinkets, colors and charm since the neighborhood was built post World War II.
