google sheet to organize revenue & research
annual reports via LEGO's site
LEGO has always been a big part of my life, from childhood to now. I wanted to honor their achievements with a fun and informational timeline. I hand picked the group’s revenues from their annual reports and graphed them in Google Sheets. Additionally for each year, I wanted to highlight a non-numerical milestone, such as launching a franchise (i.e LEGO Ninjago) or a new CEO taking over.
The idea of the yellow “stud” stacks representing revenue came from my experiences playing video games like LEGO Star Wars, where studs are used as coins. Originally, I had planned the timeline to parody a LEGO instruction manual, but the colors seemed off. Ultimately, I decided to have it look like a blueprint with crayon scribbles to represent nostalgia in a “grown up world.” Ideally, this timeline would be in a publication like The New Yorker.
